First, check if the whole neighborhood is dark — if yes, it’s a city issue, and unfortunately there’s nothing we can do but wait (maybe a good excuse to open a bottle of wine 🍷).
If only the apartment is without power, it means the electricity has gone out. In Italy the voltage in apartments is lower than in many other countries, so if you turn on several appliances at the same time, it is normal that the power might go off. Don’t worry : Open the electrical panel (behind the entrance door, on the left-hand side when you face the door. Picture below).
Look for the main switch (on the left, orange, marked “GENERALE”)
If it is down, switch it back up.
If it immediately goes down again, unplug the last appliance you were using and try again.
If the orange switch is already up, then you need to check another panel located outside the apartment:
Exit the apartment and walk toward the main entrance door of the building
On the right-hand side (when facing the entrance door), you’ll see a panel up on the wall. Open it.
Inside you’ll find another main switch: push the blue lever up (it will be down, as shown in the photo).
If there is no hot water or the heating is not working, you need to check the boiler.
The boiler is inside the kitchen cabinet, on the right-hand side.
Open the storage cabinet
Make sure everything looks like in the photos below.
3. If the water pressure is below 1 (check the round gauge on the right with the needle), it is likely a pressure issue.
4. You will need to use the pressure key located under the boiler (as shown in the photo below).Slowly turn clockwise.
5. As soon as the needle reaches 2, immediately close the key.
6. Very important: leaving it open above 2 is very dangerous
If the stove is not working, it’s most likely that the valve knob is simply closed.
Make sure the knob is turned to the left, as shown in the photo.
Once open, the gas should flow normally.
